The Eco Challenge – Santa Ana CA

The Eco Challenge is a regional program created to educate the community on how to reduce, reuse and recycle in order to make Orange County a sustainable place to live for current and future generations.

“Take The Eco Challenge” is a call to action for Orange County residents to reduce their waste consumption, reuse when possible and recycle with the goal of preserving our natural resources and landfill capacity for current and future generations.

In 2011, the County of Orange and Discovery Cube partnered together to create three exhibits at Discovery Cube. The Eco Challenge exhibit includes:

1.     Discovery Market – Demonstrates to guests at Discovery Cube the impact that various products and packaging materials have on the environment and teaches visitors to reduce waste by making responsible shopping choices.

2.     Race to Recycle – Race to Recycle is a hands-on, highly interactive game in which guests are taught the difference between recyclables, household hazardous waste, including e-waste, green/yard waste and landfill waste. Guests are encouraged to apply the concepts learned in this game to sort their own household waste and to be mindful of conserving space in local landfills.

3.     Eco Garage – Inside Eco Garage, the goal of this challenge is to teach guests to identify household hazardous waste in their own homes and encourage them to properly dispose of these items by taking them to their local household hazardous waste collection facility.
