City of St. Louis Recycles Too

Recycling Services

The City of St. Louis has a city-wide residential single-stream recycling service. The service utilizes blue dumpsters and rollcarts to collect recyclable materials from alleys and curbs.

Residential Recycling Pick-Up

Pick-up recycling services have proven to increase the likelihood and amount of recycling done by residents, and provides access for those who do not have the ability, access or time for drop-off recycling locations.

It costs approximately $5.2 million annually for the City of St. Louis to bury waste in a landfill. Therefore, by reducing the amount of waste we generate through recycling, reusing materials, buying recycled or reused items and being mindful of conserving all of our resources, we can all help put the budget to a better use.

In order to understand the potential for reducing waste through recycling, let’s look at how much waste the City of St. Louis Refuse Division actually collects each year:

170,000Tons of waste (residential, City Government , public spaces, special events
140,000Tons of residential waste
36,000Alley dumpsters (brown, green, blue, 300-500 gallon)
