Chapman University student, 22 year-old Katie Peck with her art piece made of trash collected from Huntington Beach. It includes plastic bottles, bottle caps, diorite bags, and various other items. She wants to show the importance of coastal cleanup.An Orange resident and artist has spent the summer turning trash into treasure to send a message about the pollution of California’s coasts.
Katie Peck grew up a “water kid.” She was in the water before she knew how to walk, has played three water sports competitively, loves visiting the beach and has fond memories of floating out of Santa Cruz harbor for fishing trips with her dad.
“Ever since I was super young, I was out there with a pole in the water, on the beach or floating on the coastline,” Peck said.
